As a child, I remember watching the show “The Everglades” with my dad. I remember watchingΒ the show and wishing that I could ride on one of those neat airboats that you see Ron Hayes flying through the swamp waters in.
Let’s go down memory lane…
Everglades by DwightFrye
Living in California my whole life, I never had seen an airboat before, only on this show I watched with my dad. That was until last month when I took a trip to Florida and got to go on my very own airboat ride in the Everglades with Boggy Creek Airboat Rides for the #DisneyGlobalEvent.
When I found out we were going on an airboat ride, I will admit that I was a tad excited. Flashbacks of The Everglades came through my mind and I was totally looking forward to the ride. When we got to Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, I was anxious for the ride!
Once we arrived, our group ate lunch at the little diner at Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. On the menu I seen Gator Bites and my first thought was yuck!Β Now alligator is something I can say that I have NEVER seen on any menu here in California. Since it was an opportunity that I might not have a chance to experience again, I went ahead and tried me a bite of some alligator. Okay, I had two bites and it wasn’t too bad. It actually tasted like “tough” chicken nuggets.
Don’t worry, there are lots of other YUMMY meals on the menu for those of you that are not brave enough to taste the gator.
After lunch, it was time to board the airboat and start our journey on the water. Since our group was rather large, we split up and took two different airboats. The picture above is a snapshot of the other #DisneyGlobalEvent group on their tour as we passed each other.
At Boggy Creek Airboat Rides, there are a few different airboat ride tour options that you can choose from. They have a scenic nature tour that lasts a half hour, a one hour night tour, a swamp excursion and a scenic nature tour that lasts one hour. We went on the scenic nature tour and our guide showed us some pretty neat things hiding in the waters including an alligator that made an appearance.
When the boat pulled back up to the dock, I wish it would have lasted longer. I am a boat kind of gal and my little everglades journey was relaxing and exciting at the same time. I am now wanting to go back to experience the night tour and see what the ride is like in the dark!
After we all got off the airboat, we had the opportunity to hold a baby alligator. Not all of the group was brave enough, but I was, only because this cute alligator’s mouth was TAPED shut. There is no chance that I would hold it otherwise. Once I got a picture of the baby gator and I, I forwarded it to my hubby at home. His response, “what would want to make you want to hold that thing”. My response, “when do you think I will ever get a chance to hold an alligator again?”. End of discussion…

The airboat ride was even better than I expected it to be! I’m so glad you tried the alligator at lunch – it’s a little chewy, but not terrible! π
I think the dipping sauce made it better.
How FUN does that look!!
Not gonna lie… I could take a bite or two of the ‘gator bites, but I don’t think my chicken heart could handle touching one! Even a tiny baby one… no!
It looks like you had a great time. And how awesome to go back in time and reminisce about dad!
Gator is delish when done right! DId you have any fried pickles?
I didn’t have any fried pickles, but I would definitely try those.
I loved the airboat rides — so much fun.
Alligators TERRIFY me! I’m glad you had fun though. π
That looks like so much fun!!! I’d love to get the chance to do it one day. π
OMG…so jealous! That’d be so fun! I’d love to do the airboat and try alligator bites! And to hold a baby alligator too!
We went on an air boat ride in the Florida everglades a few years ago! We had a blast! I’d love to do it again someday!
Those gator bites look delish!
I’d love to go on a ride like this one day! Love the picture of you with the alligator!!
That looks like SO much fun! I had a HUGE fear of alligators growing up {as in, I was pretty sure one lived under my bed until I was 12} but as long as the mouth was taped shut, I actually think holding the alligator would be fascinating!
Wow that looks like such an amazing time. I know my son would have been wild to hold a baby alligator.
That looks SO fun! I would love to get out with my family and do something like this!
I am actually jealous! I have wanted to go on one of this since I was a kid! Looks like you had a blast!! I would love to see wild alligators! π Thank you for sharing!
That looks like so much fun and wow, that air boat shoot out in the movie clip was aweseme π
THat was such a fun event
I would have died if I had to hold an alligator. You are so courageous. I love the photos!!
First off, that video is SO COOL! I had no idea the show existed. I will always remember the air boats now! We had so much fun and I definitely did not expect the ride to be the way it was….way cooler than I thought….and I still can’t believe you held an ALLIGATOR!
After finding the video online, I think I am going to see if maybe I can buy the episodes on DVD or something. Might be fun to watch with my little boy. π
That was a great ride wasn’t it.
I thought it was pretty neat!
Looks like so much fun!
Looks like you had a terrific time. It really is beautiful there, I love the birds and the alligators.
When I went, I wouldn’t hold the baby alligator, but I have held one at other places.
Love your photos and your video… Can’t wait to see what else you did while down here. =)
That was such a fun experience!

That looks like so much fun. I’ve never had alligator but for some reason it seems like it would be delicious.
I too, would like to do the night tour! Sounds so fun!!!
