Every year I love to make cookies for my family and friends. Another thing that I love to make to candy. It is fun and easy. Below I am sharing an easy Christmas candy recipe for you to try too!
If you have never made homemade candy it is actually pretty easy and only requires a few ingredients. Since it is Christmas time it only makes sense to make some homemade Christmas candy that tastes like peppermint.
Easy Christmas Candy Recipe
How To Make Christmas Candy
Step Two: Reduce heat to medium and then clip a candy thermometer to side of pan. Continue to stir and when you have reached 300°F remove thermometer from and and also remove pan from heat.
Step Three: Add a few colors of red food coloring and 1-2 teaspoons of peppermint extract depending on how strong you like it. I used 1 teaspoon and it had good flavor but I could have used more. I also used 3 drops of red food coloring so if you want it dark, be sure to add at least 5 drops. Stir until well blended.
Step Four: Once you have mixed the food coloring and peppermint extract well pour the mixture immediately in the baking pan.
Step Five: Let the mixture stand about 5 minutes until a film develops over the surface. Take a metal spatula and make lines on the surface to make 1/2″ inch squares. Be sure to not push to hard so that you don’t break the surface. Wait a few minutes and retrace the lines again with the spatula making it deeper.
Step Six: Allow to cool completely and then remove from dish. I used a butter knife and it came out pretty easily.
Break the candy into squares using the lines you made with the spatula.
Step Seven: Roll candy in the confectioners sugar and shake of excess sugar.
This is an easy Christmas candy recipe that you can easily change and add your own flavors. You can try using other oils like lemon, wintergreen, spearmint instead of using the peppermint extract like I did. I only had peppermint extract which works, you just have to use a little more than you would if you were using the oil. If you want to make some candy that is fruity I recommend using the Lorann Fruit Flavoring Oils that come in a variety of fruity flavors for your candy.

Spray a 8x8x2 baking dish lightly with cooking spray.
-
In a heavy duty 2-quart saucepan add the sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook on high heat until mixture starts to boil.

Add 3-5 drops of red food coloring and 1-2 teaspoons of peppermint extract depending on how strong you like it. I used 1 teaspoon and it had good flavor but I could have used more. I also used 3 drops of red food coloring and my candy came out a light red color. If you want a darker red, be sure to use about 5-6 drops of food coloring. Mix well.
-
Pour the mixture immediately in the baking pan and allow to cool. Let the mixture stand about 5 minutes until a film develops over the surface. Take a metal spatula and make lines on the surface to make 1/2" inch squares. Be sure to not push to hard so that you don't break the surface. Wait a few minutes and retrace the lines again with the spatula making it deeper.
-
Allow to cool completely and then remove from dish. I used a butter knife and it came out pretty easily. Break the candy into squares using the lines you made with the spatula.

Instead of a knife you might want to try using metal cookie cutters to make more creative shapes for your candy.

I used to make this candy growing up. It was awesome. I always used cinnamon oil. You have to get it from the pharmacy or you used too. We would just pour it onto a cookie sheet. Then we would just break it into pieces.
