The last few months I have been contemplating on whether or not my children should be receiving an allowance for doing their chores. While we do give our children money when they need it, there has never been an allowance system enforced in my house.
We have rewarded our children in the past by buying them something they have been wanting, taking them out to lunch or dinner, letting them stay up late and other fun rewards. One thing that there isn’t, is a dollar amount set on the chores our children do each week. For some families, they pay their children weekly, bi-weekly or maybe even monthly for their chores. For our family, we haven’t yet put together an allowance system.
So I have found this neat site, My Job Chart that offers a FREE online chore chart and reward system that has been designed to teach, organize and motive your children to earn, save and spend their money responsibly. To see how it works, watch the video below:
With My Job Chart, you can setup a profile for each of your children and setup their individual chores. When they complete their chores, they earn points that they can redeem for things they want from the Amazon store place. Since I do a ton of shopping on Amazon, I was excited to see that they if I use My Job Chart, my children will be able to purchase through Amazon too!
A great benefit of using My Job Chart is, not only will your children be more excited to do their chores, they will also be receiving some hands-on learning about the ABCs of prosperity that include saving, sharing and spending. Take a peek at this screenshot:
Not only can your children spend, they can also use their money to share and donate to charities like Heifer International and Operation Smile that are needing to be rewarded too!
