When I graduated high school back in 1994 I signed up for college right away. I had lots of dreams and I knew that I needed to go to college to further my education. So I went to a local community college for a semester and then decided to go onto a vocational school that seemed like the best choice at the time. Not only was it probably not the best of choice, it was rather quite expensive. Once I started having kids, my dreams of going to college were put on hold. I worked job and going to school full time was not in the question if I wanted to spend quality time with my family.
Now that my youngest son just turned 5 and will be starting school this year, I decided it was time to get my butt back into school. I went online to that local community college that I once went to years ago and enrolled in the Spring 2013 semester. I picked some classes, bought my books and software and have been officially a college student for 2 weeks now!
I currently go to school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and can be excited for the weekends now like my kids. Normally every day can be like a weekend when you work full time from home, now I know what TGIF means to those that work and go to school… 🙂
What am I taking?
- Since I am a website designer and blogger, I thought it would only make sense to take a HTML web design class. I know basic HTML, but since technology is always changing, I want to learn more about XHTMl, XML and most of all, HTML5 that is currently being developed. Right now some of the newer versions of the browsers are already preparing and ready for HTML5.
- As I mentioned before, I like to design websites so I am taking a Dreamweaver CS6 class. I have used this program to make some of my sites, but I only know the basics. I want to learn how to use some of the advanced features of this program and turn those work in progress websites of mine into something I am proud of.
Right now I am only taking 2 classes, but will start a Photoshop CS5 class next month. I didn’t want to overwhelm myself when starting school last month, so I decided to just start with a couple classes to get back into the groove of going to school. It has been over a decade since I last took a class, but something I have always wanted to do since my there are so many things I need to learn with my career choice.
Want to see my school mascot?
Now that I have been back in school a couple weeks now, I am looking forward to getting good grades and being able to take at least 4 classes in the Fall 2013 semester. I like the classes that I am currently taking since I am already a little familiar with the subjects, but I am really wanting to take digital photography class next semester so I can make better use of my Nikon D5100.
I also want to wear one of the cool college sweatshirt hoodies like I have been seeing so many others on campus with, even if the mascot is a silly beaver!
That is so cool, these are great skills to have! I want to take photoshop too.
I don’t start Photoshop until next month but I am really excited for it to start.
I’ve been thinking about taking some web design classes also. Good luck! I know you’re do fabulous.
Thanks! So far I am doing pretty well but it hasn’t got to the hard stuff yet. 🙂
How awesome. I have been thinking of going back to school. Sounds like you are off to a great start!
Thanks! I have been wanting to take these classes for a long time. Im glad I finally pushed myself to go back!
That’s awesome!
Thanks!
Good for you for making the decision to go back to school Not only are you going to learn a ton and reach your goals but you are being a huge role model for your children. They are watching you and learning from your decision.
I was even thinking maybe my daughter that is in high school could take a class with me. They offer classes to high school kids and it might be fun!
It would be so fun to take a photoshop class!
I definitely want to learn how to make better logos and do cool stuff with my pictures. Next is to learn how to use my DSLR not in auto mode. 🙂
I can’t wait to see all your awesome work once you complete the classes.
Me too! I want to learn how to make awesome websites!
Good for you for going back to school! I just graduated last May and I’m so happy I decided to go back. It was hard as I was pregnant twice within the 5 years I was in school, but I did it.
That is awesome that you got a chance to go back and graduate. Congrats on graduating too!
I have a degree in digital media design, and going to school was SO MUCH FUN! There are times I wish I was back there. You’re going to love the classes you’re taking. Those were part of my degree as well! 🙂
Going back to school kind of makes me feel young again! Congrats on your degree… 🙂
You go girl! That is really awesome.
Thanks!
Way to go!
Thanks!
Good for you! I’m thinking about going to take some photography courses.
I am definitely taking a digital photography class next semester. I tried taking one this semester but they were full and a ton of people on the waiting list.
That’s awesome!
Thanks!
Love your class lineup!
Thanks! It would have been better with a photography class too but that can wait until next semester.
Congrats on such a huge step!
Thanks!
Good for you for taking a huge step and doing something for yourself! I also happen to think the Beaver mascot is pretty rad.
Thanks! I have waited a long time and I am having fun so far!
Awesome! I didn’t know you were doing this. So exciting!!!
I was going to blog about it earlier but got busy with homework and a hacker. I just got done with week #3… Go me! 🙂
We have a local high school here whose mascot is a beaver, too. 🙂
I wonder where they come up with their mascots? It does sound funny calling students beavers. 🙂
That is awesome and congrats on going back to school. Also, I love that beaver. He looks mean as heck. LOL.
Thanks! The beaver does look a little fierce.
Congratulations on going back to school!!! tough job, but you will surely feel very satisfied with yourself after you see how much you’ve learned.
Keep the good work,
From your friends at Vital Oxide
Thanks! I do feel a little satisfied right now that I finally got the motivation to get back in school. I can’t wait until I learn some stuff I can use to make better websites!
No I know who to call when I’m having troubles with my site! Good luck!
Thanks! Hopefully I will be able to help bloggers with some cool blog designs too!
This is wonderful. I hope you share some of your photoshop lessons with us. We need it! I use Lynda.com for tutorials just in case you get stuck.
Once I start my photoshop class next month, I will have to share in some posts what I am learning. 🙂
I have a membership to Lynda.com too!
Those are definitely great classes to take. I really want to go and get a degree in marketing.
I wish I would have been able to take a couple more. All the good computer classes are taken fast. Next semester I will be taking a class in DSLR photography too!
I love going to college! It took me 7 years to get my bachelor’s degree. Fifteen years after that, I went back and got an associate’s. (A little backwards, I know.) Best wishes for you to get all A’s!
Wow, that is great! This is something that one of my brothers are doing – taking a class on web design. I kind of toyed with the idea myself. 🙂
