Growing up I spent a lot of time with both my mother and my grandmother. They were the two women that would tell me the in and outs about growing up and being a lady. My mom and me are only 20 years apart. When I was 10, my mom was only 30 and I remember my mom always putting on makeup and doing her hair to look her best. I remember the makeup and I also remember my mom using anti-aging skin cream on her face to help her look younger. That wasn’t her trick to looking young though, it was something else.
If there was one thing I can remember my mother telling me all the time, I would have to say that my mom would always encourage me to drink more water. If we were at home and she had a glass in her hand, probably 9 times out of 10 it would be a glass of ice cold water. My mom used to tell me that water was the best thing for me to drink. She would tell me that drinking lots of water would not only make my skin stay younger looking, there were also other benefits from drinking lots of water.
I am now a mother of four and always encouraging my children to drink more water. I try to lead by example so when and if possible, I try to always have a glass of ice cold water in reach too! When it comes to water, drinking it warm really isn’t so tasty. Luckily I have a freezer that makes crushed ice and when you add water and swish it around, the water becomes extremely cold and on a hot day, a glass of ice cold water is pretty refreshing. My kids see mom drinking water this way and its fun to see them making their own glasses of ice cold water too!
For those that think water is boring, there are lots of ways to give it flavor. Squeeze a few drops of lemon or lime. Or maybe add a slice of strawberry to give it a boost. I also seen at the store options of flavored liquid drops to make your water not so boring. Drinking lots of water is the key to keeping yourself healthy and hydrated so find a way to make it tasty!
Your mom probably gave you some pure wisdom to help you live a healthy life. That’s why Nestlé® Pure Life® wants to help you share some wisdom on how to stay hydrated this summer:
- Did you know that 60% of an adult body is water? Keep it well hydrated by drinking enough water!
- In addition to drinking plain water every day, eating foods with high moisture content—such as fruits and vegetables—could be a good way to increase total water consumption. Water constitutes 90% of most fruits and vegetables and about 50% of meats.
- Drink water instead of sugary drinks when you’re thirsty. Regular soda, energy or sports drinks, and other sweet drinks usually contain added sugar. To manage your daily calorie intake, sip water or other drinks with few or no calories.
- Drink water with and between your meals. Adults and children take in about 400 calories per day as beverages—drinking water can help you manage your calorie intakes.
- Water is a great choice when it comes to daily hydration. Have ready-to-go containers filled with water available in the refrigerator. Place them in lunch boxes or backpacks for easy access when kids are away from home.

yes. water. although my mom’s water was more wine than water. but she gave me a lot of great advice anyway. she also taught me life is too short- sometimes, it’s ok to have dessert for breakfast. or skip school to hit the beach. not always, just sometimes.

You’r so right about adding a little flavor to keep it from getting boring. I always keep lemon wedges in the fridge for my water.

Adding flavor to my kid’s water is the only way I can get them to drink it! If I’m being honest, I’m not a fan of plain water either so I add a lemon slice to mine to make it taste better. 🙂

Drinking water is so important for my health. It aids in digestion and keeps my skin hydrated. I always have a bottle of water with me even in the winter. Water is the only thing that quenches my thirst!
