Last year while taking classes at my local community college I signed up for one of their culinary classes. I have always wanted to learn how to make breads and fancy pastries so I signed up for the Pastry & Breads class. As a student I was required to have certain kitchen tools & supplies. One of the things that I had to have was a food thermometer.
I will admit that I have had an OLD food thermometer in my drawer in my kitchen for years but I had never used one. I always thought that I would save it for the day when I would need it.Well that day came when I learned how to make homemade bread. When making bread, you have to check the internal temperature to make sure it is done. A fully baked loaf of bread that is DONE will have a temperature of about 200F and you can’t check the temperature without a food thermometer.
Now that I know how to make bread I now have the EatSmart Precision Elite Food Thermometer to help me my kitchen. I wish I would have had this when I took my class because I would have been the envy of the class when it came to checking our loaves.
Here are the features of the Precision Elite Food Thermometer:
- Rapid temperature read in 3 seconds or less
- BROAD range (-40°F to 572°F)
- Fahrenheit/Celsius switchable
- 1.5mm Folding Step-Down probe
- Hold feature to “freeze” temperature when removing from food
- Blue illuminated backlight
- Anti-microbial nylon carrying case
What I like about this thermometer is its ability to read the temperature fast. I also like that when you fold it to close it, it automatically shuts off for you so that you don’t waste battery life.
With this thermometer I also like being able to “freeze” the temperature. With my old thermometer I used in class I would have to read the temperature while it was still in the hot bread. With this feature you can push a button to save your temperature, pull it out and then read it making it much easier!
You can purchase the EatSmart Precision Elite Food Thermometer on Amazon for only $39.95.

This is a very nice food thermometer that I want to get. The one I have now is not that good. I like how precise and easy it is to use and it would make me feel better knowing that my meat is done to the right temp.

I have never had a food thermometer before but this sure looks like a nice one. The Hold feature is nice to have.

Great price for something so practical in the kitchen! I got my first one a few years back – love it for Thanksgiving especially!
