I am usually picky when it comes to documentaries. This documentaries was mentioned by Oprah and since I am a parent, I had to watch. The movie Waiting For Superman is a documentary that shows us just how our education system is truly messed up. If you are a parent, you should watch too! I thought it was pretty powerful!
Our education system is so messed up that there are parents that will break the law to try to get a better education for their children. This movie covers a story of an Ohio woman who got sentenced to jail time for signing her children up in a school district that they did not reside in. What I like is this movie shows the education system through the eyes of 5 children who are in America’s education system. If you are a parent, the end of this movie will probably have you upset, angry and might just want to cry. The school system for some children is like a lottery system. The children want a good education, but if they don’t get picked, they get to suffer.

Right now there are specially marked packages of the Waiting On Superman on Blu-Ray that come with a FREE $25 DonorsChoose.org gift card. If you are not familiar with Donors Choose, this is a website for teachers to request help on supplies that they need for their classrooms. I have already donated to Donors Choose a few times within this past year. These teachers appreciate the support they get and even send personal thank you letters from the children whom who choose to donate.
I recommend this movie to any parent with a child in America’s education system!
Disclosure – I received a copy of this DVD for review. These opinions expressed are my own opinions and are NOT influenced by monetary compensation.
I am both intrigued to see this but scared to see it. I already know it’s bad, but the truth might just scare me to death!
I really want to see this, areas like Calirfornia are in such dire situations. I’m also very worried about what to do for my own children when they get older.
I saw this screener in October at Blogalicious. It is sad and made me cry. The superintendent for DC schools has since left her position.
My son was accepted into a charter school here while my other 3 are not. It is hard, I remember the day he got the letter out of the mail box and read it aloud to me about his acceptance. Although we dont have lotteries here it I feel so strongly about it. It is a shame what our kids have to go thru to get any type of real education in our country.
Thanks for this review I want to see this. For the past few years I have been going through a lot with our school system. It is the biggest in Wisconsin and with all the budget cuts I am scared things are going to get even worse.
