Earlier this year I was teased with just a short preview of the new Pixar film ‘Inside Out’ that left me wanting to see the rest. Then last week I had the opportunity to attend the ‘Inside Out’ Premiere in Hollywood that included watching the whole film, plus the cute film short ‘LAVA’ that plays right before the movie begins.
I LOVED the movie!
Sometimes the movies that I watch with my kids can get boring and I can’t wait until they are over but this is one had my attention the entire movie. It is a movie that I am looking forward to watching again, only this next time will be with my kids because they cannot wait to see it!
About Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’
The new film by Disney/Pixar is set in the mind of an 11-year old girl named Riley Anderson who is a happy little hockey player from Minnesota who has her whole world turned upside down when her parents decide to move to San Francisco.
When Riley arrives in San Francisco with her parents she starts to feel all sorts of different emotions and is no longer that happy little girl from the Midwest. She now has to feel those emotions of fear, anger, disgust and sadness instead of the joy emotions that she was so used to back home.
All five of Rileys emotions Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) live in the Headquarters, the control center of Riley’s mind where they each have a different purpose in Riley’s life.
Joy makes sure that Riley is happy. Fear keeps Riley safe. Anger keeps Riley’s life fair. Then Disgust is there to prevent Riley from being poisoned both physically and socially. Since Riley has always been pretty much a happy kid, her emotion Sadness doesn’t feel like she has a purpose in Riley’s mind and feels as though she is always ignored.
As Riley tries to accept her new life in San Francisco and wants to be happy for her parents, there becomes turmoil in the headquarters of her mind which causes her five emotions to go a little haywire.
Joy tries to make Riley’s move a happy and pleasant experience but Sadness accidentally turns one of Riley’s happy memories into a sad memory which causes one of Riley’s core memories to fall out of it’s container in her mind’s headquarters. Realizing that those core memories cannot be changed, Joy has to make sure to keep Sadness busy so that they doesn’t turn any more of Riley’s happy memories into sad memories.
On the first day at Riley’s new school Sadness ventures out of the control panel area where she creates a new sadness memory after making Riley cry in front of her new classmates. Joy struggles with Sadness in an attempt to get rid of the new sadness memory which only causes more trouble with all of the core memories get knocked out of their container.
Before Joy has the time to put them back, she gets sucked up in the long term memory tube with Sadness, along with the core memories. Down in long term memory she meets Bing Bong, Riley’s imaginary friend who helps them plan a ride on the “Train Of Thought” and venture through the different parts of Riley’s Mind before it is too late!

My Thoughts About Pixar’s ‘Inside Out’
I mentioned above that I loved the movie. I think this may be one of the best movies that I have seen yet from Pixar. The story line may be about the emotions of an 11 year old child but it will also have you feeling some emotions yourself while watching, especially if you are a parent. It makes you think about all the actions that you have done or will do that have caused or will cause your child to feel a different way.
As a parent I am always trying to do things with my kids that they will remember. I try to take them to fun places , do special things like making crafts, things to create those memories that are good memories, ones that they can share with their families someday. What I have been doing all these years is being a Joy and helping to create all of those happy core memories.
I recommend that everyone see this film, even if you don’t have children. Just make sure that you bring some tissue! Make sure you stock up on your “Must Have Inside Out Products” too!
