I received complimentary tickets for this cruise. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Last week I shared about my stay at the Basecamp Hotel in South Lake Tahoe. What I didn’t mention was the fun cruise that I took the kids on while we were in town. On a sunny Saturday we took a ride on the Tahoe Queen, Lake Tahoe’s only authentic Mississippi paddlewheeler.
Lake Tahoe Cruises offers two different cruises on both their Tahoe Queen and their M.S. Dixie II boats. We took the Scenic Daytime Cruise that is a 2 1/2 hour tour that takes you to Emerald Bay sharing some of the South Lake Tahoe history. There is also dinner cruises in the evening for those that prefer to be on the lake when the sun sets.
The Lake Tahoe Cruises depart from Zephyr Cove Resort which is a fun place to visit if you are looking for a great place to spend some time on the beach or take a cruise on the Lake to enjoy the fresh South Lake Tahoe air. Not only can you have fun on the beach and take a cruise to Emerald Beach, Zephyr Cover Resort also offers some watercraft rentals too for those looking for a little adventure.
Once the Tahoe Queen takes off from the dock there are non-stop photo opps if you are one that loves nature! I love Lake Tahoe, I love the color of the water and Emerald Bay is a perfect spot for some amazing pictures.
Once you get near the shore you might get a glimpse of the Vikingsholm Castle. You will even pass Fannette Island which happens to be the only island in Lake Tahoe. Fannette Island has a stone structure that looks like a mini castle that is called the “Tea House” that was built during the time that the Vikingsholm Castle was being built.
You can walk on the island but camping is prohibited. People were climbing on the mini castle as we passed by.
My kids and I enjoyed the cruise and took pictures from the top of the paddlewheeler, the front and even the back.
Although we didn’t eat during the cruise there is food available for purchase and a full service bar. We spent our whole time on the cruise enjoying the views!
The Tahoe Queen Scenic Day Cruise is $51 for adults and only $15 for children ages (3-11). To find out more about the Lake Tahoe Cruises and Zephyr Cove Resort visit: www.zephyrcove.com.
