This year we are going to make an effort to turn in more Box Tops For Education™ . Now that my son is the only one that will be turning them in this year I want to send him in with a big collection that will put a smile on his teacher’s face.
This weekend I created a DIY Box Tops Collection box with my son that he can use to keep the Box Tops in and also keep count of how many are inside!
At my son’s elementary school there is a wall in the multi-purpose room where the school keeps track of how many Box Tops have been turned in by each class. Since it is a brand new year all the teachers have a brand new slate but I am hoping to help my son gather lots of Box Tops this year so that his class just might win one of the popular pizza parties that the school gives to the class who turn in the most labels this school year.
Making this Box Tops Collection Box was a fun little project. Not only do I love crafts, I got to explain to my son why we are collecting them. He knows that mom collects them and sometimes he takes them to school but he didn’t know that the school actually gets money for each one that we turn in. He is now more excited to clip them!
I went online and found some images from the Box Tops For Education™ website and Facebook page that I could use to decorate the box. I also created a cute label with Photoshop for the top of the box using one of the images that I found that says Box Top Collections Box and also had an area for me to cut a slit in the box to put the labels through.
For the glue we used Mod Podge which my kids think is awesome. If you have never used it, the stuff dries clear. It also feels like plastic once it dries. I printed the images and we glued them onto the box with the Mod Podge but also put a thin layer on the areas of the box without an image to give the whole box (not bottom) a plastic feel!
Once our box was completely dry, I put on one of the chalkboard stickers that I found in Walmart in the scrapbook section. I originally had wanted to spray the box with Chalkboard Paint but thought it would be more fun to create a personalized box with some style. I also used a Kleenex box for this project because this particular box had a Box Top on it that will be used as part our collection.
With this chalkboard sticker on the box my son can use a piece of chalk and change the number each time he puts another Box Top in the box. This will make collecting the Box Tops even more fun!
My son was so excited once his new Box Tops Collection Box was dry and couldn’t wait to touch it. Want to make the same box? Here is what you need:
- Kleenex box
- Mod Podge
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Chalkboard label
- Box Tops images
