California Milk Advisory Board has a great initiative called Fuel Up To Play 60 that is a national campaign by the National Dairy Council along with the NFL to encourage our children to eat low-fat and fat-free dairy products, fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains and participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.
The Fuel Up To Play 60 initiative helps provide grants to California K-12 schools up to $4,000 that can be used towards the school’s health and wellness programs. For schools wanting to apply for this grant applications are being accepted through November 4, 2015. To qualify for the Fuel Up To Play 60 Fall funding each school must:
- Enroll in Fuel Up to Play 60
- Have a registered Program Advisor
- Participate in the National School Lunch Program
The Fuel Up To Play 60 provides a program that has been designed with a Fuel Up To Play 60 Playbook that the participating schools can use to implement their plays from and are the tools to make healthy changes!
Each of the participating school’s pick a play that best suits their school like creating a healthy breakfast program or maybe even coordinating a 100 Mile Club that challenges it’s students to walk, run or job 100 miles during the school year. Some of of the other interesting Plays in the 2015-2016 Playbook include:
- Farm To School
- Walk To School Day
- Community Playtime
- Let’s Dance
- & more – schools can get CREATIVE!
Being a mom of four children I think that this initiative is a great way for the schools to help our kids eat healthier and participate in more physical activity each day. As a result of this great program millions of students NATIONWIDE are now more active and also eating healthier! Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation’s largest in-school wellness program that is creating real transformational change in more than 73,000 schools.
