In just a little over a month you can watch Finding Dory on the big screen. I am really anxious for this to come out as I was given a short preview of the film in March which had me wanting to watch the rest! In March during the #FindingDoryEvent we were able to do a roundtable interview with Finding Dory’s Director Andrew Stanton and Producer Lindsey Collins that was fun and informative!
Below are some of the questions that we were able to ask them that you just may want to know!
Can you tell us if there will be any other characters from “Finding Nemo” that will make their way into this Movie?
Andrew admits, “We tried really hard to put them all in” . Lindsey tells us that it is obvious that Marlon and Nemo are in it and that they are in the movie all the way through. She said she has gotten this question a few times because the clips might have implied that they weren’t in the film. Lindsey said “We had at least explored putting in a lot of these Characters just because we love them too”.
Can you talk about casting the new characters with Ty and Ed?
Andrew replies with “You could tell we watched a lot of Modern Family”. Lindsey tells us that usually their casting process is painful because you have to have to have ideas, people you are interested in and have searched editors and looked through the films or movies they have been in.
Lindsey admitted “You have to kind of pull a clip that looks like it may be interesting and then you have to kind of fake a conversation between that person and like Ellen, and then listen to it. And we were like, Ellen and Ty Burrell. And play Interview. And then we could just sit there. I mean, she has interviewed everybody so it was like, she made it so easy”. Lindsey tells us that Diane Keaton made the process so easy because she has interviewed almost in the cast at least once before.
Andrew adds to this question stating “Even before I knew the story, I was like I would love if Dory’s Parents were Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy. That would be my dream and it’s really nice to come off of a popular Movie because they said Yes right away. And it was just all I ever thought of was the Parents”.
Did you have to do any medical research on short term memory loss?
I love Andrew Stantons response to this question.
No to be honest, there’s nothing. It’s so made up for us. It honestly came from a biological fact that I’ve learned about Goldfish that they have memory of 5 seconds, and I thought that was so hilarious, and I thought what if we come up with a character like that, and I thought it was too good. And I gave it to maybe the Character that has to go with Harland through the journey and how to figure that out. And then slowly evolve because just forget every 5 seconds which just gets so annoying so fast. And slowly, it turned into this almost like just feeling it out. It’s like let her have emotional memory. Let her not forget any of that stuff.
These were just a few of the questions that were asked. To listen to the full interview with Andrew Stanton & Lindsey Collins hit play below:
