One of my favorite things about watching a new film from Pixar is the movie short they will usually play right before the film. It is a tradition that I am always looking forward to and this next one is about a little bird that everyone is going to fall in love with, especially my eight year old son who has a real passion for birds.
Meet Piper – Pixar’s New Sandpiper
I had the opportunity to watch Pixar’s new film short “Piper” back in March and I think it is now one of my favorites along with The Blue Umbrella and Lava. Like my son, I also love birds and I have always enjoyed just watching them! They are some of earth’s cutest and amazing creatures!
Pixar’s new film short “Piper” is about baby sandpiper bird and her mom that shows a mother and daughter relationship as seen through the eyes of a child. It also shows a story of a little baby bird overcoming their fears which also displays a good message to our children.
In the short Piper has to go out onto the beach and dig for clams and the waves are coming in quickly. This is where Piper has to face her fears and get the food she needs. Take a peek at the NEW “Piper” clip below:
Not only did I have a chance to watch “Piper” earlier this year, I also got to sit down with the short’s Director Alan Barillaro to learn more about the story of Piper and the animation process. What we learned was that Barillaro had actually been working with Pixar’s software development team to create an animation tool that would help provide additional creative flexibility to the studio’s filmmaking process. Barillaro had always found the sandpipers entertaining, that bird that runs away from the shore and therefore created a short animation test about a sandpiper on a beach. That animation test soon turned into a full-fledged film short that is debuting with Finding Dory which I think makes the perfect match!
