When I was a little girl my first bike was a yellow Schwinn with a banana seat and I LOVED it. As an adult I moved up to the Schwinn beach cruiser as I have always been a fan of the brand. I was excited to find out that Schwinn has completely redesigned their line of children’s bicycles with their Schwinn SmartStart Bikes. They have created their first line of children’s bikes to better fit a child’s body and riding needs.
Schwinn’s new line of bikes have been designed to offer children maximum comfort and confidence to make learning how to ride a bike more fun! They have redesigned all of their 12″, 14″, 16″, 18″ and 20″ wheeled bicycles to properly fit a child’s proportions. These changes addresses key touch points on the bike such as leverage, gearing, comfort and weight.
I received the 20″ Schwinn Throttle bike and the Schwinn Merge helmet for my son for review and he was so excited when he seen his new bike. While this isn’t his first bike, it is his first bike without the training wheels.
Schwinn SmartStart Bikes
Schwinn is giving kids a SmartStart with their new bicycle technology. Below is the changes that have been made to make riding a bike and learning how to ride a bike more fun for kids:
- Pedal Better – Narrower pedal positions that match the width of a child’s hips, producing a stronger pedal stroke.
- Build Confidence – Reduced overall weight, making it easier for the child to handle and stay in control.
- Stay Comfortable – Seats designed to match and support child proportions.
- Stay In Control – Smaller grip diameters for small hands to hold and steer.
- Start Faster – Fast-start gearing that also reduces top-speed; this means your child can start quickly, and you can stay next to them once they get going.
- Start Easier – Pedal positions moved forward, increasing the leverage to pedal easier.
I really like the changes that Schwinn has made to their bikes with kids in mind. From my own experience I know that riding a bike can be fun if you have a bike that is comfortable to ride. My son is one that really likes video games and this new bike is helping him to get outside more and be more active!
