A couple years ago a friend on Facebook starting posting pictures of these awesome cakes she was making. Some even for celebrities. These cakes looked professional and honestly they didn’t look like something that you could eat. I looked at the pictures and was thinking “that is not frosting”, but I didn’t have any idea what it was.
So last week I was browsing shows on TV and came across the show Cake Boss and DC Cupcakes. From watching a few episodes of those shows, I knew what that “frosting” was, it was fondant and I wanted to get my hands messy. So I went shopping and bought all the supplies to make the fondant, frosting and the cupcakes. I then watched a few recipes online on how to make it and was ready to go!
The fondant was actually fun to make, just a little messy. I will say that it is hard work coloring the fondant after you make it. Next time, I think I might want to color some of the fondant before it sits in the fridge overnight.
So pictured above is my fist fondant cupcakes. I was originally going to do bright red and black ladybugs, but black fondant isn’t the easiest to make. My son LOVED his ladybug and manbug this morning. I definitely now want to attempt to make a cake. Hannah’s birthday is next month and I am practicing for the big day!
Have you tried making anything with fondant?

Those are so cute, congrats on your first try. I’ve never used fondant, actually I think I’ve yet to even try it. It looks daunting.
