I love getting creative with chocolate! It is fun to turn a couple bags of white chocolate chips into some big colorful chunks of sweetness that your family and friends will enjoy. I usually make Peppermint Bark in December. Since Halloween is next week I decided to make the family some pretty, sweet and salty Halloween Bark.
How To Make Pretty, SWEET & Salty Halloween Bark
When you make bark the options are endless. You can really get creative on what you add. For my Halloween Bark I bought the Autumn Candy Corn Mix, Reese’s Pieces, pretzels and black sprinkles. I like to add pretzels to give it the salty flavor which goes perfect with chocolate.
I don’t know why but I love using food coloring to make my food pretty. I used two of the Wilton Icing Colors (Leaf Green & Violet) to turn my white Ghirardelli chocolate chips colorful!
To melt the chocolate use a double boiler. Add one 11oz bag of white chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler with your food coloring or icing gel over just barely simmering water. Stir frequently and use a spatula to scrape down the sides to avoid scorching. Heat just until melted.
After the chocolate is melted comes the fun part! You will want to line a 13 by 9-Inch baking dish with parchment paper. Once you have your first bag of chocolate melted, pour it on the left side of the pan and use a spatula to spread over half of baking dish.
You will now want to add half of your toppings. Using your fingers or spatula slightly press toppings into the melted chocolate.
Don’t forget your sprinkles! I use the Wilton Black Sugar Sprinkles which makes them look more festive and it also gives your bark a little crunch to it.
Next you will want to follow the same steps above with another color. Pour on the right side and use the spatula to spread. Adding the two colors in one pan can be fun when breaking the pieces as you can get pieces that have both colors!
Once you have all your toppings on your bark you will want to cover it and place it in your refrigerator for 1 hour or chilled. Peel the chocolate off the parchment paper and have fun breaking it pieces.
Making Halloween bark is fun because there is so many different ways to make yours unique. For Halloween you could also use orange or yellow and maybe even BLACK!
To make this bark even more colorful you could pour both colors in the pan like I did above but use something like a toothpick to swirl the colors together. See my post How To Make Candy Corn Bark.
