With winter less than a month away and the holidays near, this is a time when people travel to be with their families and friends. The holidays is also a time when we might gain a little extra weight because there is so much delicious food and holiday sweets that we can’t say no to.
5 Steps To Stay Healthy During The Holidays
- Stay physically active by focusing on the holiday fun, especially if you are enjoying some extra calories. Instead of driving around the neighborhoods looking at the the pretty lights, park the car and walk with the family to enjoy the lights even longer.
- Stock the fridge, freezer and pantry with healthy meals and snacks. Prepare some meals ahead of time and keep in the freezer for the evenings when there isn’t much time to cook to avoid that fast-food temptations.
- Avoid those germs! Keep those disinfecting wipes with you wherever you go. Keep them in your purse, car and in your luggage when you are traveling. Keeping hand sanitizer is also suggested. Those disinfecting wipes will also come in handy when cleaning off those dirty grocery baskets handles when doing all that holiday shopping! Bye bye germs!
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water! Staying hydrated, especially when you are traveling at high altitudes can help to keep the mucous membranes in your nose and throat moist which can help to fight germs.
- Get plenty of rest! Don’t run yourself ragged! When you don’t get enough sleep and you put your body through too much you risk getting ill.

- Stick to very light meals before traveling and avoid greasy and fatty foods.
- Try sitting in areas that move the least – the front of a train, wings of a plane, center of a ship.
- Cough or sneeze in a tissue or your sleeve to avoid spreading it to others. Wash your hands frequently.
- In the car, children may be restricted to the backseat, but make sure they can see the road or between seats.
