When you have kids it can seem like the days go by so fast. They go from wearing diapers to going to school and before you know it they are graduating high school, heading off to college and starting their own families. This summer break is definitely going by fast but I make sure that my kids and I do small things to make memories that will LAST! Spending quality time with my kids, doing things that they will remember and can share is something I make sure to do as much as I can.
I am all about getting my kids outdoors as much as I can if the weather isn’t too hot. When kids are young they seem to love playing outside but when they start getting older, like the tween and teen age it sometimes can be a little difficult as they tend to want to spend most of their time on their phones, playing with electronic devices and hanging out with their friends. I have now found something to do outdoors with my kids that we can all enjoy doing that kids will LOVE if they love plants or gardening.
I have recently take a liking to succulents. They look pretty and they are fairly easily to grow, replant and maintain. They can also be FUN to use with your kids to make something you can keep and that will keep on growing. This month I gathered a basket of succulents that we could replant and we made 3 DIY Succulent Planter Ideas that you can also easily make at home with your kids!
The first idea was my daughters which I thought was a great idea and a cheap craft idea at that. She wanted to create a planter for the succulents using the inside of a fish bowl along with some pretty rocks I had purchased for only a buck.
First she carefully added a small amount of dirt, then a layer of rocks. Next she added the pretty succulent plant right in the middle and re-arranged the rocks around the plant to make it look nice. It made the perfect addition to my desk and something I enjoy looking at.
The next planter was my idea because I am a fan of upcycling! I had my daughter make a DIY Washi Tape Succulent Planter using a recycled snack container and a roll of washi tape I had in my desk that I had been wanting to put to use. If you have different rolls of Washi tape you can get even more creative.
Sunflowers have been my favorite flower since I was a teen but not a flower I have ever been able to grow. I got creative and made my own DIY Sunflower Succulent Aloe Vera Planter using a metal planter that I also bought for only a buck, some succulents and a artificial sunflower that will live even when I forget to water it.
In order to make sure that everyone is happy when we are crafting I always make sure to have snacks ready to grab. One of my family’s FAVORITE snacks is the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers which you can ALWAYS find in our pantry. I really like that these crackers come in a variety of sizes from little packs you can grab and go to the big carton for those like me that want to make sure I don’t run out.
The Goldfish Crackers are not only great for snacking when crafting, they are PERFECT for an after school snack. They are my favorite crackers to keep on hand for the kids because they have NO artificial flavors or preservatives and are always baked with real cheese!
5 Essential Back To School Tips For Parents
Going back to school can be both exciting and overwhelming for children and parents. I am sharing 5 essential tips for parents to give you a start on preparing your kids for their new school year.
- Make A Supply List – Create a supply list for each of your children that will include everything that they will need to start the new school year such as supplies, clothing and other school necessities.
- Calendar Everything – Get the school calendar and schedule all the important dates that you need to know for the whole school year. This will help you during the year remember dates that your child might forget to remind you about.
- Setup A Homework Station – Having a special spot for your child to do their homework can be beneficial! Setting up a desk or table that is the right height for writing is important and can also help with distractions they might have from doing homework on their bed, couch, etc.
- Stock Up On After School Snacks – Keeping snacks like the Goldfish Crackers that your kids can grab when they get home from school will make them happy, not hangry and more eager to do their homework. Happy kids can make for a happy mom!
- Homework Supply Stash – Keep a set of supplies that you know your child will need to do their homework that they might keep in their desk at school. This includes things like coloring pencils, markers, glue sticks, a ruler, calculator and other things you will find on their supply list.
