Just months ago I was bummed that I didn’t make it to the theater to watch War Horse. I am a big fan of Steven Spielberg films and wanted to take either my husband or one of my oldest daughters to see it. Unfortunately that didn’t happen and I had to wait until it came out on Blu-Ray so I could enjoy watching it at home.
War Horse Synopsis:
The extraordinary journey of courage and friendship as seen through the eyes of one unforgettable horse named Joey and his miraculous journey to find his way back home, “War Horse” is a must own contemporary classic for everyone’s home entertainment collection. Spielberg’s renowned creative passion and artistry not only shine throughout the film but are also evident in all the fascinating bonus features included exclusively on the Blu-ray disc.
At the beginning of the movie, Albert’s father Ted buys a colt which he immediately starts to regret once he gets home because he has spent too much money and needs money to pay rent. Albert immediately becomes attached to this horse and names him “Joey”. Albert then spends hours with this house, training hims to be a plough horse for their farm. Things go for an unexpected turn and Ted ends up selling Joey to Captain James Nicholls, a young officer that promises Albert he will take care of Joey as his own and will hopefully return him after the war has ended.
Take a peek at this clip:
Even though this movie is geared around the times of World War I, this movie is a great story of friendships and leaves out all the gory details that most would think comes with a war. This horse not only is brave, he touches the hearts of the soldiers and civilians from England to Germany and to France.
War Horse is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, Digital Copy and even Amazon Instant Video. I have the War Horse 4-Disc Combo Pack that includes a Blu-Ray-, DVD, Digital Copy and Bonus Disc that is on sale at Amazon right now for $29.99. This 4-Disc combo back includes a TON of bonus features you will want to watch. Some bonuses include:
- A Filmaking Journey- A look at the making of War Horse
- Editing & Scoring – The discussion of the film’s editing and music & more
- The Sounds of War Horse- Explanation of the movie’s sophisticated sound design
- Through The Producer’s Lens – Photos during the filmaking
Even though I would have loved to see this in the theater, I am glad that I have a copy of the film to watch at home. Since this is somewhat of a long movie, there were times I had to pause the movie as well as rewind to go back to things I missed. At the theater, I don’t have the luxury of pause and rewind and all the cool bonus features you don’t get when seeing it at the theater.

Disclosure – I received a copy of this movie to provide with this review. This post is not a paid post and the opinions stated herein are 100% my own.

I was able to see it twice in the theaters, and once on DVD – it’s an incredible movie whichever format, but I must say…those sweeping scenes of the English countryside were incredible on the big screen!
