Have you heard of the Race Across America? I have heard about it, but didn’t know much about it. What I found out recently is that this race just happens to be one of the longest sporting events in the world. The Race Across America (RAAM) also supports companies biking for great causes and is known as the “World’s Toughest Bicycle Race”.
What is neat about the race this year is that the Ohio CycleWorks bike team, a participant in this race was sponsored by FedEx Custom Critical. Not only were they sponsored by FedEx, teammate Scott Garchar (board member of Ohio CycleWorks Charities) was also tracked with a very special human package that was designed with one-of-a-kind technology called SenseAware. This technology offers a comprehensive tracking and monitoring service that can be used to find real-time data.
The SenseAware device traveled with Garchar and his team throughout the entire race from Oceanside California to Annapolis, Maryland providing his real-time GPS location and the environmental conditions. I was able to login during this race and find out his location and just how hot or cold his location was. Pretty neat!

I think that this new technology is pretty awesome. For companies sending sensitive packages such as medicine or medical supplies, they can use this technology to find out by vital statistics on their package they sent such as it’s current location, temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity and light sensitivity.
I also want to mention that the Ohio CycleWorks bike team helped raise money for the Akron Children’s Hospita by participating in this race. For more information about the Ohio CycleWorks Charities or to donate to their cause, visit their website at www.ohiocycleworkscharities.org.
“I received compensation from FedEx for covering the use of SenseAware® technology during the 2012 Race Across America. My ideas and opinions relayed in this blog post and any related Twitter discussions are the my own and are not provided by FedEx or its affiliates and subsidiaries.”
