This week has been hot here is California. It has been in the upper 80’s and even in the 90’s. Even though it is Spring, it is beginning to feel like summer.Β When you are on a budget and especially when you have children, buying new clothes for the seasons can be expensive. Here are some tips for buying summer clothes for the family when you are on a budget.
Tip #1 – If you have multiple children, the best way to save on buying clothes is buy the hand me down system which you probably already use. Go through each of your children’s clothes to see what fits and what doesn’t fit. Take the clothes that don’t fit and see if they can be saved for another child now or maybe in the future. If you have friends with children, you might be able to swap clothes that don’t fit, to save an extra buck.
Tip #2 – Go through your own clothes and take anything out that you did NOT wear and won’t wear this summer. Once you have the stuff that you don’t want, you can either sell them online or maybe swap or sell them at a local clothing consignment store. I know there are a couple places local to me where you can buy and sell your used clothing.
Tip #3 – Find clothes on sale. With the vast amount of websites out there that sell clothing online, you are sure to find a bargain. Be sure to look for items on clearance that you like and also look for FREE SHIPPING. You can also find offers and vouchers on clothes for men and women at superdry.
The only bummer about shopping online is that you can’t try it on before you buy. Be sure to read customer comments or testimonials on any product you buy online if they are available. For some clothing and shoes, you might be able to find out if they clothing runs small or large for the size so you know just what size you should order.

Most of our kids clothes are hand-me-downs, or gifts from Christmas or their birthdays. We rarely shop for clothes.

The nice thing about kids clothes is that they pretty much all fit good and look good on them. Now that my daughter is older, we actually have to have her try things on. These are great tips though – it’s been hot here!

I’ve been doing a lot of consignment buying!

Great tips! I love the idea of swapping.

I buy a lot of my kids clothes from thrift stores and consignment stores. You would really be surprised at the high quality clothes you can find. Kids grow through things so fast and it’s just a waste of money to buy a brand new wardrobe every few months.

I have bought some really nice clothes at Thrift Shops! They have sells and the deals are so good. Of course, I have also found very good deals on clothes marked down. But sometimes I have to buy new, but I always buy it on sale!

I tend to buy a lot from Old Navy online. I have gotten some super deals on clothing for everyone in my home. We also have a lot of hand-me-downs from neighbors, that helps a lot.

We’ve shopped at Amazon and AE Kids. But honestly I do most of my shopping at Walmart or Target for clothing – the quality is good enough for the time worn before outgrowing it and you can’t beat the prices.

I have a 10-year-old boy who is rough on his clothes, and outgrowing stuff so quickly, so I get his clothes (with the exception of 2-3 outfits a year) from Walmart, Target, thrift stores, and yard sales. I’m sure that will change as he gets older, but right now, he doesn’t care what he wears. π

I usually try to buy at the end of season for the next year. My boys are getting a little harder b/c their growth spurts are weird so lately I have been having to buy during season for them. Great tips.

These are some great tips. I just did my summer shopping yesterday. The kids and I went to Burlington Coat Factory. We were able to find some great styles and designs there, and everything was at a great price. I saved $200 on my purchases and the kids love their new outfits.
