This week my kids started their holiday break. They get 2 weeks off from school. Hailey has flown in from Texas and I have been busy racking my brain thinking of things that I can do with them to keep them busy. The other day we made salt dough ornaments, then we made our own crayons using old broken crayons. This was a fun little project that the kids really got a kick out of.
What you do is gather all the broke crayons that you have or want to use. Soak the crayons in warm water and remove the labels. Grab a muffin tin that you want to use with your crayons. I used the cupcake/muffin liners so I didn’t ruin my tin. Place the broken pieces of crayon into the muffin tin. We actually broke the crayons into smaller pieces.
Bake the crayons at 150 degrees for around 15 minutes. The broke crayons should be melted completely before you remove from oven. Once they are melted, remove and place in freezer to cool. In about 20 minutes you will have new colorful round shape crayons. We used different colors to make some very interesting crayons and had fun coloring with them after they were done.
Have fun!
