It seems like I just finished the Spring semester of college and I will be starting the Summer semester just next month. Last semester I only was a part time student with a few classes and now I am enrolled full time which means I am going to have to buy double the amount of books I bought last semester.
I have been saving the last couple months for my textbooks. The books that I have had to buy are NOT cheap. After buying just 3 last time, I am really thinking about renting the textbooks that I know that I won’t want to keep after the course is over. There is website where you can rent your textbooks online called CampusBookRentals.
Here are some of the perks of renting textbooks with CampusBookRentals:
- SAVE 40-90% off of bookstore prices
- FREE SHIPPING both ways
- You can highlight in the textbooks
- Flexible renting periods
- A donation to Operation Smile is made with each textbook rented
If you have college textbooks that are current that you no longer have a use for, you can use the RentBack website to rent your textbooks for you so that you can make some extra money. For fun I got one of my books from one of my classes last semester and put in the ISBN number to see what it suggests I would receive for renting it. Here is a screenshot:
The screenshot shows that the rental price for this book is $54.42 and I will receive 100% of the proceeds minus their cost of $19.00. I would be making over $30 to rent it, so it might be worth it to list all of my textbooks from last semester! I know that I could probably receive $50 if I sell the book back to my school. But if I rent the book out twice, I am making more money as well as still having ownership of the book. I also read the book is rented so many times, there is an option to sell it. By renting your book out instead of selling it back, you probably can make 2x-4x more!
Have you ever rented a textbook for college? Please share your experience.

Renting text books is really popular now. I have a lot of friends that have done this. I didn’t know about this particular store though, so we’ll have to check it out.

I’ve rented for 2-3 semesters now and will never do it any other way.
CampusBookRentals is one of the places and they’re wonderful.

I haven’t rented yet but seriously thinking about it since I am taking double the classes next semester. I am also liking the idea of the RentBack program for the books that I own that I want to make some money from.

This is such a great invention to rent books cheaply. Books are waaaayyyy too expensive in college, so finding a way to save is awesome.
