Disclosure – I received an invite to the #CinderellaEvent. All expenses were paid for and covered by Disney. The opinions stated herein are 100% my own.
When it comes to press trips, I enjoy interviewing the celebrities of the movies but it is also just as fun getting to ask questions and pick the minds of the directors of the movie, the stars behind the big screen. This month during my trip to Hollywood our group got to sit down and interview the film directors for Disney’s Frozen, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee.
When Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee walked into the room, I knew the interview was going to be fun. I love the movie Frozen as well as all of the characters, especially Olaf and couldn’t wait to hear what they had to say about Frozen as well as the new Frozen Fever short that is playing right before Cinderella starting March 13!
Our group was quick to ask them Chris and Jennifer about their lives now, their current plans for Frozen and questions about the Frozen Fever short.
Q: So it’s been a year. How are your lives now?
Chris Buck: How are our lives now? Let’s see… I still buy shirts at TJ Max. Hasn’t changed…
Jennifer Lee: We thought they’d be less busy, but they’re not. So I still find myself going I have to buy another dress? So. So yeah. So nothing’s changed, really.
Chris Buck: No. I mean, it… Since we first last talked, it’s been overwhelming, the year. We still get Youtube sent to us. I mean, I got one just yesterday… I mean mash-ups. All this kind of stuff…
Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee go on to tell us how their lives our still busy. They thought that things were going to be less busy but they are not. They still to this day get all sorts of stuff sent to them about Frozen. They even talk about how their lives are still being impacted on people’s response over Frozen.
Chris Buck: So, you know, we’re overwhelmed by that. There are autistic kids that watch Frozen that parents tell us they hadn’t… They don’t sit still for anything, and they watch Frozen, and they relate to Olaf. Just a few weeks ago a friend of ours working at a nursing home, and a senior citizen just, she wasn’t really doing much. And she watched Frozen. And then she started drawing again. ‘Cause she used to draw when she was younger. And she was drawing the Frozen characters. And her husband was just so grateful she was coming back to life. So you get those are the stories that we go oh wow. And that’s how I think our life has changed.
Q: In the Frozen Fever short, Elsa sneezing is the cutest thing ever. How’d you come up with that idea? Or who came up with the idea of her sneezing and snowmen come out?
Jennifer Lee: One of our story artists, he was one of the head story artist on Frozen Fever… I mean Frozen itself. And we were brainstorming all, whatever could be, you know. Blue sky. Anything. And, , we kept saying it would be nice to focus on Elsa more, and… ‘Cause she’s the one that What’s she like now? I mean, we end the film. We had this tragic character. We end the film, she’s free, but we don’t know. And, but we’d love to play with her magic in a different way, and he just said what if she’s a cold, and the cold wreaks havoc. And we, we just went crazy. I mean, it got ridiculous at some points but it was just so much fun.
Q: What’s the future of Frozen and Elsa and Ana?
Jennifer Lee: We don’t know.
Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee say that they don’t know of any future Frozen films or shorts since they just had finished the Frozen Fever short just 2 weeks prior. They mentioned that they are currently working on a Frozen musical broadway show with more songs and that there is a Disney egg on the Frozen Fever short but they weren’t going to share just what that egg was!

I have read articles on how Frozen evolved, and I must say, it was the perfect *snow* storm. I’m thankful for the message of this movie, too. My daughter learned that princesses are more than queens-to-be waiting for rescue. Family love matters! A message we all need. Thanks!

What fun to be able to interview people who actually enjoy being interviewed and seem very very human–even though they deal with Fantasy most of their working hours!
