Last week during my trip to Los Angeles I took a trip to the ABC Studios where our group met with some of the cast and the producers of the show The Family. This is a show that my family has been watching together for the last month and anxiously await each week’s new episode.
When we arrived at the ABC Studio we had a family style dinner while watching episode 107 with Zach Gilford (Danny), Alison Pill (Willa), Floriana Lima (Bridey) and the show’s executive producers Jenna Bans and Laurie Zaks. Since this is a show that I am already a big fan of, being able to watch the show with some of the cast makes me an even bigger fan. Riding up the elevator with Zach at the studio before dinner was also an added bonus! My family at home was just a little jealous. 🙂
While we were watching the episode we were all also live tweeting which caused the hashtag #TheFamily to trend! We even heard the next day that the ratings went up! There are MANY people that live tweet during this show (even the cast) so if you are on Twitter and you are a fan be sure to participate tonight.

About The Family & How To Watch
For those that haven’t seen The Family and like a good mystery drama you will want to watch this show! The show follows the story of a mayor’s son who was kidnapped and presumed dead for the last decade that returns causing her family to have their doubts. Each episode ends leaving you hanging in suspense wanting to know what happens next. You can watch past episodes on the ABC website and Hulu and the new episodes air Sundays at 9PM EST.
After we watched episode 107 we were able to watch episode 108 that you can watch TONIGHT! What was really amazing about this evening was being able to sit right next to Alison Phil while watching these episodes. Such a really neat experience and now I am really LOOKING forward to watching the show even more! I will admit that I had a love/hate relationship with “Willa” on the show but after meeting her in person and learning more about her character I am leaning more on the love side.
After watching episode 108 “Sweet Jane” we did a Q&A with the cast and executive producers which was really fun! Our group was able to ask some questions about the show and we learned some interesting and fun things from each of them.
Interesting & Fun Things I Learned From The Family
- Executive producer Jenna Bans lived in a house across from a sex offender which freaked her out and really scared her which is where Hank Asher’s plot (sort of) comes from.
- Andrew McCarthy who plays the Hank Asher, an intense character in the show is also a director and knows everything about the show.
- Alison Pill says her husband hasn’t watched all the episodes yet. She even told us that her husband doesn’t like any spoilers either.
- If you record the show on DVR you need to watch it within 3 days to count for their ratings.
- Alison says it is SUPER weird working with different directors for different episodes.
- Floriana says the biggest surprise to her is that people think that Willa is so insane. She said she isn’t to her and she has always been thirteen.
- Alison told us that Joan Allen is so nice and made 150 amazing cookies on her day off and brought them in before their holiday break.
- There are two Facebook groups for fans that they know of that have private chats and discussion about the show you won’t find on Twitter.
