I was invited to the #ABCTVEvent. Costs and expenses for my trip were covered. All opinions expressed are my own.
Last week I shared with you my visit to the on the set of Grey’s Anatomy. I shared with you some cool pictures of the set and of the “Dream House”. Now I am going to share with you the second part of our tour where I got to learn some interesting information about the props, the costumes and even meet with some of the cast.
We talked with Props Master Angela Whiting that showed us some of the surgical props from the past 10 seasons of the show. I am one with a weak stomach so I don’t really like looking at gruesome stuff but I got some great pictures of the props that aren’t too bad to look at. When it comes to episodes with body parts, I usually cover my eyes.
For those of you that are Grey’s Anatomy fans, do you remember Anatomy Jane from Season 5?
On the show Meredith finds an Anatomy Jane from her childhood while going through some old boxes of her things and brings it around the hospital for a whole day. What you might not know is the creator of the show (Shonda Rimes) played with an Anatomy Jane when she was a child. She wanted to create the same thing and they found a company to take a doll and create the cavity so that they could create Anatomy Jane for the show.
How about this prop? Looks a little REAL to me…
Or how about this prop?
We asked Angela what was the craziest prop that she had to work with. She says that they had to build a simulation surgery for conjoined twins. She mentioned that it was hard and she hated it. After showing us the surgical props, Angela also showed us some old props that had the Greys Anatomy fans on the tour in awe.
Some of the props for Alex Karev…
Or how about some of the Mark Sloan props…
Another prop you Grey’s Anatomy fans might recognize…
We also got to chat with Costume Designer Mimi Melgaard that told us some neat information about the scrubs as well as the other costumes that are worn during the episodes. Mimi told us that the scrubs are custom made for the show. Once they are used they are then donated to the LA Free Clinic which was something that Disney wanted to do. She mentioned how each person in the ER on the show has about 3-4 sets of scrubs to be worn because all of the blood that spurts out.
We got to see some of the old dresses from some of the past episodes.
We even got to see some of the clothes that Derek Shepherd has worn on some of the past episodes.
Even though I enjoyed the whole tour, I really did enjoy when Sarah Drew who plays “Dr. April Kepner” sat at the table to talk with us. The first thing she let us know was how excited she was to be able to meet our mommy blogger group because she is starring in the new film coming out “Mom’s Night Out” where she plays the role of a mommy blogger in the movie. She also mentioned that she has been checking out a ton of blogs since her role in the film. Sarah says the movie is family friendly and is like adventures in babysitting meets the hangover.
Right while we were chatting with Sarah, Justin Chambers and Camilla Luddington walked up to our table to say hello and let us take some pictures.
Before we left the studios we were all given some signed scrubs by show creator Shonda Rimes!
