Last summer I picked up my daughter Hailey from the airport. She arrived off the plane with a cute yellow and black flower pen for me that was made out of duct tape that her friend in Texas had made. I had seen these flowers before but never thought about making them myself. This past Christmas Hailey gave me another cute pen made out of duct tape that her friend had made. Now this pen was even cuter than the first one I received. This one was red, black and a cute cheetah print. This was the first time I had seen cheetah print duct tape.
Since I am a crafty mom I have been wanting to find out for myself how to make these duct tape flower pens. My daughter Hailey is 11, so I am thinking her friend is around the same age. If an 11 year old can make such a cute little flower pen, why can this crafty mom? I went online and found so many videos about making things with duct tape it got me wanting to get crafty. So I went out looking for duct tape. I first went to Home Depot. They had a couple colors and only had them in big rolls. Luckily Walmart was next door because this is what I found there…..
Can you say duct tape? This is duct tape from the Duck Brand. I was totally amazed at how many different colors and patterns there was and this happens to be in the paint/hardware isle at Walmart. At this point, I really wanted to lean how to make duct tape flower pens with all the options. I was frugal though and bought just 2 rolls to practice with. I wanted to make sure it was fun before I splurge on a bunch of rolls. So I come home and watch this video a couple times to make sure I know what I am doing.
This duct tape flower is not perfect but it was my first one. I have now taught my daughter Ariyona how to make them and she is addicted. We have also bought a few more colors including pink and peace sign pattern duck tape. Did you know you can make duct tape purses, wallets, flip flops and even PROM DRESSES?
Have you made anything with duct tape? Please share….
