My oldest daughter Ariyona is starting 8th grade tomorrow. This means that I only have a matter of time before she goes to high school and then moves out of the nest. My little girl is growing up fast and I am scared. She will soon be wanting to go on dates, have a boyfriend, drive, etc. So far I have been lucky and shows little interest in boys, but soon I will hear her talking with friends about boys and the worrying will begin. I also have two more daughters that are 11 and 6 who are also growing up FAST!
Only when I was pregnant with my last son did I learn what HPV was. I remember sitting in the doctors office reading the different literature about how common HPV is, especially in young women. I also remember reading about a vaccine that is offered for young women to prevent HPV. Since I have a daughter who turned 13 this year, I am very interested in this vaccine for my daughter and of course my younger ones too!
These HPV vaccines are for young women ages 9–26 to help protect them against the two types of HPV that are most commonly associated with cervical cancer. These HPV vaccines are a powerful tool to help us prevent the spread of HPV. The HPV TEST is simply conducted from the same sample as the pap smear and identifies women who are at high-risk for HPV infections that can cause cervical cancer. When used with a Pap in women 30 and older, the HPV test increases the ability to identify who is at risk of developing cervical cancer.
