When I was in kindergarten and first grade I remember my mom putting these cute ribbon barrettes in my hair that she used to make. I think she had made one of every color combination to match all of my outfits. I loved these barrettes and always wondered how to make them.
A couple years ago I picked up my two oldest daughters from a Girl Scout’s meeting and they had made these barrettes that my mom used to make. I was jealous and remember thinking I had wished I had stayed for the meeting so I would have seen how they were made. When I was asked to do a review of the My ribbon Barrette Maker I was excited. While this is something that is made with kids in mind, this mom knew she was going to have some fun with it too!
The My Ribbon Barrette Maker has this handy specially-designed ribbon loom to help keep your ribbons organized while you are making your barrette. Under the loom is a storage case to keep your barrettes, ribbons, beads and your other barrette supplies. The loom actually slides open so your supplies are right there whenever you need them.
Above is a picture of my first barrette I made with My Ribbon Barrette Maker. It did take me a few minutes to read the instruction to see how to get started, but once I figured it out, I was on a roll and my barrette was done in no time. I think I just might make some of these barrettes for my cousins for Christmas!
My first barrette came out pretty cute! My 12 year old was the first one to make one, but I actually had to help her get started. I told her that the box said for ages 6 and up and she tried her best to figure it out but was getting a little frustrated. Once I got the barrette started for her, she was able to finish it pretty fast. My seven year old is now anxious to learn!
My Ribbon Barrette Maker comes with 8 barrettes, 16 ribbons in 8 colors and 128 tri-beads. This is definitely enough to get started with, but I can see that I will be buying ribbon and barrettes very soon with 3 daughters in the house that want to make these too!
