The kids are back in school and this mom is back to packing snacks and lunches for the kids. I admit, I sort of like packing my kids a lunch because I can pack them something I know they will eat. Hannah is now in first grade and has the option of eating the cafeteria food. So now Hannah usually brings a snack or snacks in a lunch tote, then eats the cafeteria food for lunch. Not sure how long this will last because personally, the food at the school does NOT look appealing. They had a preview of all the new food on the school menu before school started at the school BBQ and I was not really impressed.
One thing I hate wasting when it comes to packing a lunch is the baggies that get thrown out each day. Since I am trying to live “more green”, the thought of buying a box of baggies just to toss seems like such a waste. Last year, I used some cool plastic lunch containers, now I have something that may work as good, if not better.
- Did you know that each reusable bag that you use keeps as many as 1000 plastic bags out of the waste streams?
- Did you know that the US alone adds 20 million plastic baggies to landfills every day?
We have recently been given the opportunity to review a couple of the reusable bags for snacks and sandwiches. These are bags are called snackTAXIs and they are machine washable. All of the materials are FREE of lead and phthalates too! So now if you pack lunches like me and hate using baggies, this is a great alternative. The only thing I worry about is my daughter Hannah accidentally throwing them away. So far, she has always been good at bringing back all the containers, lunch bags and containers that I have sent with her to school.
These cool reusable bags come in different sizes and a variety of patterns. You can also find produce sacks and twice-as-nice napkins. Find snackTAXI at www.snacktaxi.com or you can also find them on Facebook.
