Working from home took the world by storm two years ago when COVID-19 struck, and it looks like it’s here to stay. And more of us than ever before have turned our homes into hybrid office and living spaces. Whether this is something you love or hate, there are ways that you can enhance this new working phenomenon to ensure you’re getting the most out of it. Here, we’re going to look at the different ways you can do just that.
The Right Software for the Job
Anything that makes your working life easier is always welcome. So, even when working at home, you need to ensure you’re utilizing software that allows you to be as efficient as possible, particularly when there are often many more distractions here than in a shared workspace. Consider workflow tools, customer relationship management software, email marketing apps etc. Depending on what it is you do, these could certainly come in handy to streamline your work. Speak to your manager about different options that could enhance your role.
If you’re working for yourself, one of the main things you want to ensure is that you’re paid for the tasks you do. You need to be making good use of invoicing software to send attractive, informative documents to clients, including your payment details and a due date. This way, clients have no excuse not to pay you on time ever again.
A Comfortable Space
One of the most important things for you when working from home is that you’re in a space where you’re safe and comfortable. This means you’re going to want an ergonomic setup: a chair that doesn’t put strain on your back, a stand for your screen, a good amount of legroom etc. If you don’t have all that you need, then you should speak to your boss about this, as it is the business’s responsibility to ensure that you are catered for whilst working for them. They should ensure you have all the work equipment you need to do your job effectively.
All the Gear
As we just mentioned, you need the right equipment to be able to work properly. A few things that can help you to work from home as best as possible are as follows: two computer screens, a computer mouse and keyboard, blue light blocking glasses, stationery, a printer and paper, a work mobile phone, a webcam (if it’s not inbuilt on your computer), headphones and mic… all of this varies depending on your role but these are things that are typically useful for people working from home.
Personal Touches
You want to make your home office somewhere that you enjoy spending time, so by adding a personal touch you can make it a more pleasant environment. You could adorn the room with family photos, get a plant pot and plant a new seedling that you can watch grow over the weeks, add a few of your favorite mementoes, and so on. This will give the room more personality.
Whether working from home is your preference or not, there are ways that you can make the most out of your situation. This is the new normal for many of us, and it looks like it’s set to stay.
